1) Opening a condom with teeth or a sharp object.
Open a wrapper carefully with your fingers. Never ever open a condom wrapper with your teeth, a knife, or scissors, because this risks damaging the condom. Even a small cut or hole can destroy the condom's ability to protect against unwanted pregnancy or disease (STIs).

2) Leaving no room at the tip.
The tip of the condom is called the reservoir, which is designed to hold sperm after the wearer ejaculates. Make sure to squeeze the tip when you start to put the condom on, so that there's room for it to do its job. This will also make for a more comfortable fit.

3) Trying to roll it on inside-out.
If you accidentally put the condom on upside down (with the rim facing down instead of up), you'll notice quick that it's tough to unroll. Stop there, and don't try to force it. You can flip over the condom and start again if you didn't go too far. However, for total safety, it's best to start over with a totally new condom, because there's a risk that the penis may have left pre-ejaculate on the wrong surface of the condom.

4) Waiting too long to pull out after orgasm.
Men can lose their erection pretty quickly after they ejaculate, so it's important to withdraw and take the condom off before you go soft. Otherwise, semen can leak out into the wrong place, defeating the whole purpose of wearing the condom. Every time you take off a condom, squeeze the rim tight against the penis shaft as you pull it off, to prevent spillage.

5) Using an expired condom.
Most people forget to check the expiry date of condoms before buying or using them. Latex inside expired condoms tends to dry out, which produces more friction during sex and increases the chance that the condom will break.
